History of ‘Maharani Mahansar Shahi Rose’ is 250 years old
It’s about the 18th century. At that time, kings and emperors in Rajasthan used to make different types of liquor to fulfil their wishes.
Raja Karni Singh of the Mahansar royal family of Shekhawati region was also one of them. He got this liquor prepared by using many herbs.
Mahansar Fort was constructed in 1768. People there used to drink this liquor, but at that time it was called ‘Rajwadi Daru’.
This liquor was mostly sold in the fort itself, so its name later became ‘Maharani Mahansar Shahi Gulab’.
Rose because wine is made from fresh rose petals and its color is also pink.
However, it is prepared through a long process of distillation of dry fruits, various spices and more than 150 secret recipes.

The government banned it after independence
When the country achieved independence, the government banned heritage liquor.
The ban remained in effect until 1997. But then in 1998, the Rajasthan government again brought the Heritage Liquor Bill so that the secret of India’s historical liquor production could be saved.
In 2003, Rajendra Singh Shekhawat started Shekhawati Heritage Herbal Pvt. Ltd.
The biggest revolutionary step in bringing heritage liquor to the masses was when in 2016, the Excise Department of Rajasthan approved Shekhawati Heritage Herbal Pvt Ltd to set up a copper-based heritage liquor manufacturing unit in Churu district, about 60 km from Mahansar.
After that, heritage liquor again started being supplied not only in India but all over the world.
Maharani is available in five flavours in the Mahansar market, which include Mint, Somras etc. But the Shahi Rose flavour is more popular.
Heritage wine is made from premium roses
Maharani Mahansar is a grain-based liquor. To make this, special premium roses are used, which are brought from Pushkar, Ajmer.
The quality of the roses here is considered the best. The roses are plucked in the morning and prepared by the evening.
After that, the process of maturation and fermentation begins.
This process continues for approximately five to 15 days.
During this, dry fruits and different types of spices are soaked. After that, it is distilled three times in a special type of vessel made of copper.
After being prepared, the special colour of this royal liquor becomes brighter, which is completely pink in colour.
This is not very expensive
Despite being heritage, the price of ‘Maharani Mahansar Shahi Gulab’ is not high.
A bottle of 750ml will cost you around Rs 1100 in Rajasthan.
There may be some differences in other states. The reason for its low price is that the Rajasthan government gives a lot of subsidies to it.
It also does not impose excise duty etc. So that the method of making royal wine can be saved.
Let us tell you, it is not drunk like other liquor. If you pour just 30ml in the glass, the smell of roses will spread throughout the room.
